Wednesday Word: Chuck Taylor

I LOVE what I do…LOVE IT!  I’ve been doing radio since I was 18 years old, when I had to take a beginning annoucing class as part of my way to my BA in Mass Comm.  I remember that it was Wednesday, Jan 16, 1985, when I cracked the mic for the very first time.  It was scary and exciting at the same time, knowing that people would be listening to me. Me, an 18 year old, shy, skinny (I got pictures) freshman from Texarkana.  The shift was 10 to midnight on Wednesday nights, on a campus AM radio station that played album rock and whose signal didn’t even leave the campus (and barely was heard there). The very first song I played was Prince’s “Darling Nikki” from the Purple Rain album. I called myself “The Chaz” (short for Charles) and “The Chaz” was much cooler than I could ever hope to be. (At least in my mind)  I was bit by the radio bug on that night 31 years ago, and I’ve been LOVING it ever since, I never want to do ANYTHING else!  I count myself as fortunate to be able to wake up every morning and go to work to play!
